  • Be more vigilant in your collection processes.
  • Do not succumb to requests to extend payment periods due to normal “holiday” excuses.
  • Ring debtors ahead of time to ensure you are first in line to receive your payments and avoid the ability for debtors to dispute invoices.
  • Activate collection activity without delay when payment time periods are missed.

A Brief History of Insurance: Part 7 Lloyds and the London Market

Welcome back to this series which aims to briefly plot the key times and places in the historical journey of insurance, from the earliest Chinese civilisations some seven thousand years ago right through to the modern day. As we discovered in the last article in this series, the seventeenth century was of major importance to the development of insurance.

The tragedy of the Great Fire of London saw the first insurance company The Fire Office appear and soon after a number of competing fire insurers had arrived including Sun Fire Office, which we now know today as RSA – one of the largest insurers in the word.

Hurricane Irene slows slightly; tropical storm watch issued

As Hurricane Irene continued its march through the Atlantic on Tuesday evening, forecasters maintained that the storm is not likely to hit the Sunshine State on its way to the northeast.

However, even if the storm passes well to the east of Central Florida’s coast later this week, as predicted, the region could get some rain and wind from the storm.

Tuesday evening, forecasters with the National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a tropical storm watch for east Central Florida.

The watch specifically identified Atlantic waters from Sebastian Inlet to Jupiter Inlet, going out to 60 nautical miles from shore.

Forecasters now expect Irene to be a “large and powerful” Category 3 hurricane when it arrives off the Central Florida coast on Friday afternoon.
